What Does an Assessment look like?
One of the most important parts of pedorthic treatment is the assessment: when the Canadian Certified Pedorthist first takes a look at you.
First you will need to book an appointment- this can most easily be done by calling us at 519-717-3464. Here you will be asked some questions about what has been giving you trouble, if you are going through any type of insurance and what would be the best way to contact you. Once he knows when and where he needs to be, our pedorthist (Evan) comes right to you. Assessments are done in the comfort of your own home- no need to travel into a clinic, book childcare, or any kind of hassle. Just answer the door at the scheduled time and the pedorthist will see you.
An assessment itself takes about forty-five minutes to an hour. Evan will have a detailed discussion with you about what has been causing you trouble, your medical history, and daily activities that may be affected by your lower limb health. Then he will take a closer look at your feet. This will involve some poking and prodding, and moving things around to check the joints. He will take a look at how you stand as well as how you walk. Footwear is also important so please have two or three pairs of shoes that you typically wear, especially any shoes that give you trouble and/or those you would like any orthotics put into, available for Evan to take a look at.
Once he has performed his assessment Evan will let you know what all of his findings are as well as what he believes would be the best course of treatment for you. This could include modifying or altering your footwear, creating custom orthotics for you, or referring you to another medical practitioner. Evan will also break down the exact cost of these treatments and discuss how to best apply your benefits (if applicable) to them.
If Evan needs to build custom orthotics or modify your shoes he will need at least a week to complete the work for you so he will schedule what is called a fitting appointment where he comes back with your completed order and ensures that it is working correctly and fitting appropriately. If any adjustments need to be made he will determine if he can complete them then or there, or if he needs to return to the Barks Pedorthics Lab, in which case another fitting appointment will be scheduled.
