What Are Shoe Modifications?

SHOE stretching

Shoes that feel particularly tight can be stretched in both width and in depth. This can help them fit a bit better, however it may not be sufficient if a shoe is simply too small. Shoes typically cannot be lengthened with stretching.

If there is one particular part of a shoe that is irritating part of your foot, such as a bunion, hammer toe or other bony prominence, that area can be spot stretched. This essentially pushes out a loonie sized area of the shoe upper to give you relief specifically where you need it.

However, the trick with stretching is that Evan will typically need to hold onto the shoes for a few days to let the stretching tools do their work.

Lifts

If there is a difference in the length of your legs from left to right a lift can be added to the shoe on the shorter side. Smaller lifts may be able to be installed internally inside the shoe without making any permanent modifications. However larger lifts may have to be added on the outside of the shoe typically by slicing off the sole or treads, adding a filler material, then reattaching the original sole. Kind of like creating a shoe sandwich.

Price: Varies per lift - usually starting at $120 per shoe

resoling

Whether your shoes need more grip or simply need the soles touched up, we can do that. We have access to several varieties of soling that can be added to your footwear.

flares and buttresses

If you are feeling particularly unstable and your ankles have a tendency to roll to one side or the other we can add additional support to the shoe where you need it. By building up additional material on the inside or outside surface of the shoe we can increase your base of support and make it less likely for your foot to tip over. A flare is a small addition that is added to the sole of the shoe. A buttress is a larger addition that covers both the sole as well as some of the leather or canvas upper of the shoe.
